Independent agency owners are right to be cautious about networks. Your business, your book, and your independence are too important to leave unclear.
Here is a straightforward explanation of how PIIB is structured and what it actually means for your agency.
What is PIIB?
PIIB is a privately owned insurance network of more than 260 independent agencies. We are not an MGA, we do not underwrite business, and we do not take ownership positions in agencies. Our role is to create access and alignment between independent agencies and carrier partners while each agency remains fully independent.
Will I lose control?
No. You retain full ownership of your agency and your book of business. You control your operations, placements, growth strategy, and day-to-day decisions. PIIB does not manage your agency. It supports it.
How does revenue work?
PIIB members pay $850 in monthly dues. Beyond that, you keep 100% of your commissions and receive 90% of the profit sharing from partner carriers. Your clients and income remain yours. The structure is designed to strengthen revenue, not redirect it.
What about perpetuation or selling?
Your future remains your decision. Whether you pursue internal perpetuation or choose to sell your agency, PIIB does not hold the first right of refusal and does not restrict your options.
What if I want to leave?
This is the most important question, and one every agency owner should ask. If PIIB is not the right fit, you will provide 90 days’ notice and a $5,000 separation fee to cover administrative and carrier processing costs. Your carrier codes are separated, you retain full ownership of your agency and book of business, and we do not block your access to markets. The terms are clearly defined and reviewed before any agency joins.
The Bottom Line
PIIB is built to strengthen independent agencies without changing their ownership or control.
You keep your independence.
You keep your revenue.
You keep your options.
If you would like to review the structure or walk through the agreement details, we are happy to share so you can decide what makes sense for your agency.
